Change Your Wife by Faith: Spend Time with Her

This is a short series of posts commenting on the booklet: Change Your Wife by Faith written by James MacDonald of Harvest Bible Chapel & Walk in the Word ministries.  It is an examination of 1 Peter 3:7, written to husbands: Likewise, you husbands, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife as to the weaker vessel and, as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered.

Spend time with her: “…Likewise, you husbands, dwell with her…”

Dwelling with your wife means a whole lot more than just living at the same address.  To dwell with your wife is to really invest, to share, to do life with her.

It’s what every guy knows and has heard: Love is spelled T-I-M-E.  We do it with our jobs, our hobbies, sports and interests.  We invest time into everything we want to see successful.  Why don’t we take that same mindset over into our marriages?  Why is it so difficult?  Where are we going to find the time to invest time into our marriages?

James MacDonald gives a practical starting point:

  • 15 minutes a day – we all can find 15 minutes of “us” time in each of our schedules.  If you have to, put it on your schedule.
  • 1 evening a week – I call this “date nite”.  Doesn’t have to be expensive or glamorous – but spend at least two hours, uninterrupted by the kiddos, and get out and invest in your marriage.
  • 1 whole day a month – think “mini-retreat” with your wife.  Go shopping with her (yeah, I said the “s” word), take the day and go driving in the country, do some things that your wife wants and get to know this woman you said “I do” to.
  • 1 weekend a year – Save some money, get a hotel room, and share life with your wife.  You need to do this.

Watch your marriage blossom into the marriage you desire it to be as you invest time “dwelling” with your wife.
